NEW DELHI: The UPSC on
Tuesday declared 16,933 candidates as successful in the Civil Services
(Preliminary) Examination 2014. The results come barely seven weeks
after nearly 4.5 lakh aspirants appeared for first stage of the elite
examination that selects the country's top bureaucracy.
The qualified candidates will now have to apply for the Civil Services (Main) Examination to be held from December 14, 2014.
The 50-day gap between
the prelims examination on August 24 and declaration of results is a
record of sorts, as the average duration so far was 68 days. "Successful
candidates will get more time this year to study due to early
declaration of results," agency reports on Tuesday quoted UPSC secretary
Ashim Khurana as saying.
As many as by 4,52,334
candidates appeared for the prelims exam this year, which was held
beyond the normal schedule as violent protests broke out against the
Civil Services Aptitute Test (CSAT) pattern introduced in 2012.
According to Khurana,
there was a 40 per cent rise in the number of students appearing for the
examination this year, with just 3,24,279 aspirants having taken the
test in 2013.
Successful candidates will now have to fill up the detailed application form (DAF), which shall be available on the UPSC website between October 28 and November 11, for the Mains examination. The same can be submitted online. Thereafter, they must send a printed copy of the DAF form submitted online, duly signed by them and accompanied with the prescribed fees, so as to reach the UPSC by November 18.
The admission certificate of the candidates will be uploaded on the UPSC
website, along with the time table of the Main examination, around 2
weeks before the examination.
The UPSC on Tuesday made it clear that candidates' marks, cutoff marks
and answer keys of prelims examination will be provided only after the
entire process of the Civil Services examination 2014 is over and the
final result is declared. "No application under RTI Act, 2005, or
otherwise, will be entertained," it said in a press release.
The UPSC on Tuesday also separately declared the list of 1,106
successful candidates who have qualified for admission to Indian Forest
Service (Main) Examination, 2014, to be held on November 22.
