How to lead postal growth amid disruptive innovations is being discussed at the UPU World CEO Forum by 65 postal CEOs attending the meeting in Paris, France, on September 6.

The deliberations are focusing on the new paradigm that e-commerce brings to the postal sector. In particular, the digital economy, postal financial services and big data are under the spotlight.  
Welcoming delegates, UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein said: “The International Bureau conceived the idea of a World CEOs Forum in recognition of the key role of designated operators in the development of the Post globally.“ 
Hussein added that the forum provided a unique occasion for chief executives to network among peers, sharing ideas and experiences. “We believe by interacting on these topics, you will enrich your knowledge of global postal dynamics and perhaps provide help for better decision-making for your businesses,” he said.  
Speaking directly to postal executives, UPU Deputy Director General Pascal Clivaz said: “You all know the industry best. And the UPU is there as an intergovernmental organisation to encourage dynamics within the postal sector.” 
“We want to hear your views and learn about your challenges,” Hussein appealed to CEOs. 
“The only reason the UPU exists is to enable our 192 member countries to act as one network. The postal sector needs only now re-examine itself to re-evaluate its  relevance,” he emphasized. 

Industry view

The Forum was co-organised by La Poste (France). Its CEO, Philippe Wahl, told delegates: “It is a great honour for la Poste to welcome you for this major initiative of the UPU.“ 
He added: “The postal sector is confronted by the largest transformation in its history. The digital revolution has turned the postal business upside down, profoundly changing the business model.” 
With leaders from 65 countries attending, the event has a wide geographical representation. They include postal heads from Benin to India and from Argentina to China.
