(a)
the number of functional post office ATMs and those proposed to be installed in
Post Offices, State/UT-wise;
(b)
whether the Government proposes to strengthen Core Banking Solutions (CBS) in
postal department across the country;
(c)
if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this
regard;
(d)
whether the Government plans to set up Postal Bank; and
(e)
if so, the details thereof and its present status?

(a)
The State-wise detail of functional post office ATMs and those proposed to be
installed in Post Offices is placed at Annexure-A.
(b)
Yes Madam,
(c)
Implementation of Core Banking Solution (CBS) is part of the IT Modernization
Project of the Department that aims to bring in various IT solutions with the
required IT infrastructure to the post offices. Department of Posts has decided
to implement Core Banking Solution in all departmental post offices including
provision of ATM and Internet Banking facilities. As of now CBS has been
implemented in 9698 post offices.

Yes Madam,
(e)
The Department of Posts has received “In-Principle” approval from the RBI on 7
September 2015 for setting up of the Payments Bank within eighteen months. The
Department of Posts has initiated necessary action including obtaining
approvals from the Public Investment Board (PIB), which will be followed by
approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
